Why should I choose GGFL for my co-op placement?
"GGFL is a good firm for a co-op placement, as you receive a wide variety of work.  The firm really allows you to narrow down exactly what areas of accounting you enjoy the most.  Furthermore, there is a lot of room for career development.”  -- Dave
“At GGFL, there is opportunity to gain a lot of experience and eventually move up into senior positions as you gain this experience.” --  Josh

What type of training and support is provided to co-op students?
“When you first start as a co-op student with GGFL, you receive about 1 ½ weeks of training, not only about firm procedures, but also summary courses on major accounting topics.  The firm will also pay for students to attend the staff training course held by the ICAO for those going through the professional program.  New and returning students will also receive information sessions before each major “season” of work.”  -- Andrew

What type of work can I be expected to do as a 1st or 2nd work term co-op student?
"As a co-op student, I worked on all types of assurance engagements.  Many of the files I worked on required working at clients' offices, giving me a chance to interact with clients on a face-to-face basis.  Building working relationships with GGFL"s clients proved to be a rewarding experience that helped me to better understand the accounting and auditing needs of a wide range of businesses.”  -- Brian
“As a co-op student, you can expect to do a wide range of different assignments, such as taking a file from beginning to end, preparing T4s and T5s, preparing corporate and personal tax returns, as well as assisting in audit engagements.”  -- Jesse

What levels of staff could I be working with?
“As a co-op student, at some point during your term, you will work with every level of employee at the firm - be it a senior, supervisor, manager, principal, or even a partner.”  -- Dave
“All of the staff at GGFL works together on a regular basis.  As a co-op, I have worked on a one-on-one basis with staff ranging from fellow co-op students to partners.”  -- Breanne

Do co-ops receive feedback on their performance?
“Evaluations are done after all engagements taking more than two days of work, and managers are constantly providing feedback and review notes on all levels of engagements throughout the time you work on the file.  Also, six-month and yearly evaluations are given to all employees with a partner at the firm.  In my experience, all feedback was very constructive and helpful.”  -- Brian

Have GGFL's co-op experiences exceeded student expectations?
“I was not expecting to be such an intricate part of the staff, in the sense that, as a co-op, I had expected to get work on occasion, but didn’t expect I would be given the opportunity to make the number of significant contributions to the firm as I have been given thus far.”  -- Josh
“The extent of the work that I was able to do was what exceeded my expectations - being able to take a smaller file through to completion gave me the opportunity to claim responsibility for an entire project, not just a small part of it.”  -- Andrew

Are there long-term opportunities for co-op students?
“I started as a co-op student and recently was promoted to supervisor, which means that I am still out in the field in charge of assurance files, but I also manage my own group of clients and supervise staff in their preparation of files.”  -- Julia
“Definitely!  GGFL makes it clear that they value your work and that you have the opportunity to continue with the firm.  You are treated like an employee - not just a co-op student."  -- Breanne

What support system does GGFL have for UFE writers?
"GGFL strives to provide a study-friendly work environment for CA candidates. A UFE committee provides training and guidance to students as they progress through the courses and examinations. Study approach suggestions and case-writing feedback are provided in addition to significant financial support. Candidates are allotted funds to cover the costs of preparatory courses, study materials, residence admission and examination fees. Successful writers are also rewarded with passing bonuses."  -- Casey
