Why Kody Wilson chose GGFL—and why it worked.
When Kody Wilson joined GGFL, he was a talented and ambitious young tax professional with a clear vision for his future. What he found at GGFL was a firm ready to match that ambition with opportunity and support.
Kody began his career at a Big?4 accounting firm, where he spent three years honing his skills in assurance and taxation. By 2012, he was ready for more client interaction and broader responsibilities—so he joined GGFL. “I realized almost immediately that I had made the right decision. I got to know my clients well, and my regular interaction with partners meant I was getting the kind of work I was interested in and opportunities that would help me to continue to grow as a professional” says Kody.
Just a few short years after his arrival, a wave of senior partner retirements threatened to leave a leadership gap in GGFL’s tax and business valuation practices. Instead, it opened a door. Kody was given the chance to step up—and the trust to lead.
With mentorship from senior partners and the support of GGFL’s collaborative culture, Kody took on increasing responsibility, earned the confidence of colleagues and clients alike, and ultimately became the youngest Partner in the firm’s history.
“We don’t just look for great accountants—we look for future leaders,” says GGFL Managing Partner Josh Engel. “Kody had drive and potential, and we made sure he had the opportunity and backing to make the most of it.”
That support didn’t stop when he became Partner. Kody joined the firm’s Executive Committee, helped lead the modernization of the firm’s tax services, and was instrumental in shaping long-term strategy and growth.
Earlier this year, he was named one of Ottawa’s Forty Under 40 — a testament to what’s possible when talent meets opportunity.
“I’ve always wanted to do meaningful work and make an impact,” says Kody. “At GGFL, I had the chance to do that. I was trusted, supported, and surrounded by people who genuinely wanted me to succeed.”
